Pike County Schools have kept its funds in line with state requirements.

At least that’s what an unqualified opinion from the Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts for its FY 2007-2008 audit, said when it was announced at Monday’s school board meeting.

The Department of Examiners did not find any instances where the board did not comply with state or local laws.

Pike County Schools Superintendent Mark Bazzell said his team works diligently to make sure there are no errors.

The board voted to approve Child Nutrition Program bids for the 2009-2010 school year.

Barber’s Dairy was the lowest bid for milk, Sara Lee Corp. was the lowest bid for bread and Meek’s Termite was the lowest bid for pest control.

Goshen Elementary School’s Building 200 will receive a face-lift soon.

The board voted to approve Holland Construction’s $19,000 bid for painting and Stokes Floor Covering’s more than $27,000 bid for carpet at last night’s board meeting.

In other business, the board took the following actions:

approved compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act, which increases the federal minimum wage to $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009.

approved the Banks Enrichment Summer Time Program and personnel.

approved summer school at Pike County Elementary School from June 8 to 26, 2009 as well as the Seamless Summer Feeding Program at Pike County Elementary during the same timeframe.

approved closing Title II Class Size Reduction units at the end of the school year.

The board will meet again Tuesday, May 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Office.
