A 90-year-old Troy resident has been arrested as the murder suspect of Doris Adams, who was found dead in her home Tuesday morning.

Bob Ingram Pittman was taken into custody around 7 p.m. Thursday and charged with the city’s first murder of 2009, said Troy Police Chief Anthony Everage.

Adams, 82, who was found unresponsive in her home on Brundidge Boulevard by family members around 8:54 a.m., was pronounced dead by Pike County Coroner Jerry Williams that day, according to a press release from the Troy Police.

Everage said Pittman was an acquaintance of Adams.

He would not say what the possible motive would be in the case or what type of weapon Pittman allegedly used in the incident.

“It would be premature to speculate,” said Troy Police Spokesman Sgt. Benny Scarbrough.

Everage said doors were locked when family members arrived at the home Tuesday, and there was no sign of forced entry into the home.

Pittman has been taken into custody, where his bond was set at $100,000, with the condition 10 percent must be paid in cash before his release. Scarbrough said he is uncertain whether Pittman has any past criminal record.

Officers would not release any other information at this time, as investigations are ongoing.

The 12th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, the Pike County Coroner and the Department of Forensic Science are assisting the Troy Police in the case.

Adams, who was a city employee, will be missed, said Troy Mayor Jimmy Lunsford.

“Not only is she dear to us as a friend and wonderful person, but we’ll miss her at city hall,” Lunsford said. “Not many would get dressed and come to work for an hour every day, but she would.”
