Troy University senior second baseman Trevor Tyre was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in the Trojans’ weekend sweep of ULM.

The Marianna, Fla. native led Troy in a sweep of the Warhawks by hitting .538 with a double, two homers and six RBIs. The senior opened the weekend with a 3-for-5 effort on Friday that included an RBI double in the first and a solo homer in the fourth.

He followed that on Saturday with another 3-for-5 effort that included two RBIs. On Sunday he had just one hit, a two-run homer, but also walked and was hit by a pitch.

During the last 21 games, Tyre has raised his season batting average 116 points to .306 and leads the team with 10 home runs.

Tyre is the first Troy player to earn a Sun Belt Player of the Week award since Bryan Miller won the award three straight weeks to close the 2008 season.

Tyre and the Trojans are back in action tonight at 6 p.m. when they host Kennesaw State in the final regular season home game of the year.

Fans are encouraged to wear flower shirts or pirate costumes to the game for a Tropical Tuesday promotion.
