Daris Wilson traded in the blue and orange of Charles Henderson for the green and white of Enterprise-Ozark Community College next fall.

Wilson, the senior point guard for the Trojans, signed a scholarship to play for David James and the Boll Weevils next season.

“I am just proud to sign a scholarship and represent Charles Henderson,” Wilson said. “I love basketball and it is what I do, so to sign a scholarship was great.”

James said the reason Wilson would be a Boll Weevil next year is because of his unselfish style of play.

“I see a good leader and a very good passer when I look at Daris,” James said. “He just understands how to play the position and he is strong physically and mentally. He needs to work on his quickness defensively, but I think he is going to be a good player for me because he can run a team and he has great vision with the ball.”

James has been scouting Wilson for the past two years and he said Wilson’s game is suited for the next level.

“He will hit guys in the side of the face because at that level they are sometimes not ready for his passes because he is always ahead of the game and he can see something before the play happens,” James said. “And I like that in him because it is hard to find a good point guard. You have these combo guards who want to score first, but he is looking to set his guys up and get everybody else involved.”

Vallie Owens, Wilson’s mother, is as proud as any parent could be of her son.

“Every parent would be happy to see their son sign a college scholarship to further their education,” Owens said. “It is such a rewarding experience to see him sign and it is exciting that he will be closer to home. I am so very proud of him.”

Charles Henderson head coach Carl Hollis said he had fun watching Wilson in his four years at CHHS.

“His years here were good and he developed a lot athletically and as a person,” Hollis said. “I think he will do a good job at Enterprise. I don’t think he could find a better coach than coach James. I expect him to do well academically and he has the potential to do good academically, so that is good.”
