Melanie Davis’ Troy Trojans charged out of the gate in Sun Belt play this season to the tune of a 13-2 record, but the Trojans hit a brick wall against the Mean Green of North Texas April 10-11.

Troy dropped three straight in Denton, Texas and dropped another trio in Lafayette to the Ragin’ Cajuns of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette the next weekend to slip down the standings.

The Trojans (38-17, 15-8 Sun Belt) wrapped up the regular season on fire again with a two-game sweep of South Alabama in Troy Saturday and they open the Sun Belt Championships tomorrow in Denton.

“After faltering we have come back strong and we are on a good winning streak and we are pleased with how are girls have performed recently,” Troy head coach Melanie Davis said. “We are real excited about where we stand and how we finished with the two big wins over South Alabama.”

The Trojans head into the tournament with a six-game win streak after doubleheader wins over FAMU in Tallahassee, Fla. and UAB and USA in Troy.

“All those wins have given us some confidence going into the tournament,” Davis said.

Troy enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed and will face No. 7 FAU at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow in Denton.
