Good morning and good Tuesday. As we begin another week of work and school, we stop to reflect on the good news and good deeds of the week gone by and look ahead to the week to come.

Congratulations to everyone who worked hard to make this year’s Pike County Relay for Life a success. Through dedicated work of residents all across Pike County, Relay for Life collected more than $180,000 to go toward cancer research. That’s an incredible feat for a county our size. Congratulations to all the winners. Once again, a job well done Pike Countians.

Congratulations to Dresden Green, a sophomore at Charles Henderson High School for winning the 2009 Alabama 4-H Equine Science Achievement Award. Green has been invited to attend a veterinarian clinic at Auburn in July. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Congratulations to the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots golf team for snagging the AISA state golf championship last week, and PLAS’s Grant Gilbert for winning the AISA individual golf state championship. The team beat out Lee Scott Academy 614 to 621. Way to represent our county.

Congratulations to CHMS advanced science students for a successful science fair last week. Fifty-nine students participated in the science fair and worked in groups to present 20 different projects. Students tested, proved and disproved everything from rock music causing plants to wilt to non-chlorine bleach being a better stain remover than Clorox. This is the fifth year CHMS teacher Amanda Challancin has used this teaching tool for her students. This is just another way our teachers make life-long investments in our children’s lives.
