It was Monday night and the inevitable pang of returning to work after a week and a half off weighed heavy on my mind.

The wedding was beautiful, if I can say so myself, and our honeymoon was terrific. It was a week of doing nothing but going to the beach, eating a lot of food and enjoying each other’s company with no distractions from everyday life.

But the only thing that saved me from having that depression that normally hits one when returning to work from a long vacation was that I get to come back and enjoy the conclusion of the spring college sports season, as well as the postseason for five area prep squads.

The Charles Henderson baseball and soccer teams were still alive in the playoffs, the Lady Trojans softball team is set to compete in the Class 5A, Area 3 tournament and the Goshen Lady Eagles softball team is getting ready for the Class 2A, Area 5 tournament.

And the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots began their quest for the school’s first baseball state championship last weekend.

Not lost in all the diamond ball chaos was the Pike Liberal Arts golf team. The squad won the school’s third golf state championship Tuesday in Greenville.

And the Charles Henderson golf and track and field teams are set to compete in the playoffs this weekend as well.

So after a week of nothing to do, this week has shaped up to be quite a busy one. And that is the best part of being a sports editor is because there is always something going on here in the Pike County area.

So, while I was at the beach enjoying the sun all these teams were busy trying to stay alive in the postseason. The playoff action will keep on coming and it should be interesting to see how many state championships come out of this area in the next few weeks.

The Charles Henderson baseball Trojans and Pike Liberal baseball Patriots have been ranked in the Top-10 of their respective leagues all year and I am sure both squads will push hard to bring back the state championship hardware to Troy.
