Julie Money laced a ball to the outfield fence to bring home the winning run Tuesday for the Charles Henderson Lady Trojans. The hit came in the eighth inning on Senior Day for the Henderson 12th grader and it beat area rival Carroll, 7-6.

“I told her after the game that it was fitting for a senior to get the game-winning hit today,” CHHS head coach Steve Haug said. “She watched a few for balls, swung through a ball and then ripped one to the fence to bring home the winning run.”

CHHS trailed 1-0 early, but tied the score at 1-1. They got down 5-2 late in the game, but came back to tie the score at 5-5. Carroll took a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh and the Lady Trojans never quit, tying the score at 6-6 to send the game to extra innings. Henderson held the Eagles in the top of the inning and won the game in walk-off fashion in the bottom.

“It was back-and-forth all game and I was proud of how our girls stuck with it and kept on fighting back,” Haug said.

The Lady Trojans’ trio of seniors was honored before the game and the Lady Trojans inched one step closer to the No. 3 seed in the area tournament with the win.

Money, Kerry Little and Meghan Ellis each received a little attention in their final home game of the season Tuesday.

If the Lady Trojans beat Carroll today they will enter the Class 5A, Area 3 tournament as the No. 3 seed behind Rehobeth and Eufaula.
