Services for Sister Nettie Tucker, age 72, of Troy, Ala., who died April 14, 2009 at St. Vincent East Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala. after an extended illness, will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Rock Elvy Missionary Baptist Church, Shady Grove, Alabama, with Rev. Raymond Franklin officiating.
Burial will follow at the Rock Elvy Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Shady Grove, Ala.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2009 at George F. Grubbs Funeral Home, Troy, Ala.
Sister Nettie Tucker was born Nov. 1, 1936 in Petrey (Crenshaw County), Ala., to the late Berry Blair, Sr. and Stella Jackson. To this union, six children were born and Sister Tucker was the baby of the six Four preceded her in death: Berry Blair, Jr., Mamie S. Davis, Curby Blair, and her twin sister, Bettie Carter. She was a long-time resident of Troy, AL. Sister Tucker was educated in the public school system in Crenshaw County.
She graduated high school top in her class as Valedictorian. After high school, she married and became a member of Rock Elvy Baptist Church for many years before joining the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses where she served faithfully until her death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving husband of 53 years, Albert Tucker; eight loving and devoted children, two sons, Gary Tucker (Clara), Ozark, Ala., and Maurice Tucker (Darline), Jacksonville, N.C., and six daughters, Constance T. Hodges (Mack), Montgomery, Ala., Teresa T. Alloway (John Frank), Bristow, Va., Deidre T. Judkins, Montgomery, Ala., Catrice T. Balkcom, Troy, Ala., her twin babies, Sheryl Tucker, Jacksonville,
N.C., and Cheryl T. Thomas, Talla dega, Ala.; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jesse Blair (Loretta), Troy, Ala., Anthony Blair, Lapine, Ala., and Tommie Sankey (Inez), Georgiana Nursing Home; two sisters, Stella L. Harris, Helicon, Ala., and Rebecca B. Wingard, Lapine, Als.; seven sisters-in-law, Mildred Blair, Willa Bell Maxwell (Leroy ), Pittsburg, Pa., Lucille Pouncey (Willie T.), Shady Grove, Ala., Louise Hurt (Nathaniel), Troy, Ala., Josephine Givens (Nathaniel), Birmingham, Ala., Kathelene Jones, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Annie Jewel Calloway, Montgom ery, Ala.; three brothers-in-law, Clemmie Tucker (Dortheen), Shady Grove, Ala., Lincoln Tucker, Shady Grove, Ala., and Clarence Tucker, Shady Grove, Ala.; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and special friends, Georgia Mae Jackson and Linda Butts.
