Edward Wason Smith
Edward Wason Smith, born August 8, 1922 in Springfield, NH, departed for his heavenly home on April 14, 2009 at Southeast Medical Center after extended illness.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 17, 2009 at from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home in Brundidge. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Brundidge with Reverend Nathan Carroll, Reverend Kenny Horn and Reverend Mack King officiating. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home of Brundidge directing.
He graduated in the 1940 class of Newport Academy, and then served as Navy Crew Chief during World War II with over 2,000 war time flight hours. He then served in the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1988, after 35 years of employment as an inspector at Fort Rucker.
Ed, an honest, hardworking, loving, Christian man always with the best interest of his family in mind, enjoyed country life, beekeeping, gardening and learning.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Evelyn Allen Smith,; his parents, George Joseph (Schmitt) Smith and Amanda Olson Smith, brother Richard Smith of NH; ½ brother, Arvid Seablom of N.Y.; ½ sisters, Alice Hanson Kirby of Mass. and Helen Seablom Johnson of N.Y.; foster sisters reared by his parents, Phyllis Donavan Quinlan and Lois Donavan, sister-in-law Dorothy Allen Lee of Ohio.
Left to cherish his memory are a life time of friends and loved ones including his wife of 10 years, Frances Lewis Smith of New Hope; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jones Carroll of Troy, grandsons and families, Wason and Marilyn Carroll, Caleb and Brooke of Troy; Nathan and Heather Carroll, Evelyn Kate and Malachi of Geneva; step-children, Danny and Jan Lewis, Clay and Erica, Sam and Patricia Lewis Booth, Chris and Lee of New Hope, foster brothers, Allen Donavan and John H. “Jackie” Donavan of NH; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, James Cecil and Jean Allen Norris of Phenix City, Edgar L. Lee of Ohio, Norris and Judy Adamson of Rogersville, Ala., Hazel and Harvey Brooks of Valley, AL, Ester and Benny Ray Smallwood of Lanett, Hubert Adamson of Lanett, Ala.; beloved nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Caleb Carroll, Andy Lee, Ed Lee, James C. Norris, James A. Norris, Jack Johnson, Danny Lewis, Clay Lewis and Jim Fleming.
