After much deliberation, Erica Henderson signed a full scholarship to play for the Alabama State Hornets next year on the basketball court.

Henderson, a senior guard for the Charles Henderson Lady Trojans, took the last few weeks to go on campus visits and she said she picked ASU for the great atmosphere.

“The coaches and the team at Alabama State were really nice and I feel like it will be a good fit for me,” Henderson said. “I went on my visit and walked around with the team and it was real friendly.”

Henderson’s mother, Annie Henderson, said it is great to see her daughter sign a scholarship and get to continue playing ball.

“I am so excited for her and we are so proud of her,” Annie Henderson said. “I know she will do well and I am glad she accomplished what she set out to do in getting a scholarship to play D-I basketball. I can’t wait to see her play on the next level.”

CHHS head coach Dyneshia Jones said Henderson will be missed.

“This is the next step for her and I knew from day one that she would sign a college scholarship one day,” Jones said. “I knew she would make it D-I because she is that good and that dedicated to basketball. We are going to miss her aggressiveness and her leadership. When it came to clutch time and we needed a shot we knew Erica was going to make it.”
