While many last-minute taxpayers will scurry to the post office April 15, others will be looking to take a stand outside Troy City Hall.

As part of a national protest against federal government spending, some Troy residents will gather outside city hall to state their objections.

“We’re getting a bunch of people together and picketing in front of city hall,” said Brian Pullin, local organizer. “We will voice our concern about what’s going on in Washington with the deficit in the proposed budget and the tax hike.”

Pullin said while he expects some 50 to 100 to gather locally, they will join more than 1,000 other cities across the country in this TEA Party rally, sponsored nationally by the American Family Association.

“It’s truly taken after the Boston Tea Party,” Pullin said. “Tea stands for taxed enough already.”

Pullin said there is no particular group sponsoring this effort locally, but he and several other concerned citizens feel the need to take the stand.

“We’re against the trillion-dollar deficit and the proposed budget, and we’re against tax hikes that are going to be given to the middle class,” Pullin said.

Pullin said he learned of the movement from a radio show, and that it is big movement among Christians across the country.
