After more than two years without a gynecology practice in Troy, women will no longer to have to travel outside of the county for gynecological health issues.

Pike County will welcome Obstetrician-Gynecologist James Koerner, of Corpus Christi, Texas. Koerner will be the practicing gynecologist at Troy Women’s Clinic, which is scheduled to open May 1.

Koerner, who specializes in gynecology, will give up the obstetrics side, after practicing obstetrician gynecology for 20 years. He graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1985.

“I’m going to be giving up obstetrics and just practicing gynecology in Troy. I do a lot of outpatient gynecological procedures, laparoscopic surgeries and minimally invasive hysterectomies,” Koerner said. “We will also offer 4D ultrasounds, and cosmetic procedures such as Botox and Juvederm.”

Yanni Templis, owner of Troy Pediatrics and secretary for the board of managers at Troy Regional Medical Center, said the gynecology lab will feature state of the art machinery.

“We have spent a lot of money in order to get state of the art machinery, including the 4D ultrasound machine,” Templis said. “We will be able to offer gynecological exams in Troy with competitive pricing against other clinics outside of Troy. This is great, because it will save people from having to drive to Dothan or Montgomery.”

The clinic has been staffed with locals from Pike County, and Templis said the clinic will provide a comfortable atmosphere for patients.

“All the billing and collecting will be in Troy, there is no having to deal with any outside companies. We have staffed the clinic with people from Troy,” Templis said. “We are trying to make it a very friendly and comfortable environment for anyone. Dr. Koerner is a very skilled and very well-established surgeon, and we are glad that he will be coming to Troy.”

Koerner said he is excited about moving to Troy.

“My wife and I are very excited about the move. Our youngest child has left the house, so it seemed like a good time for a move,” Koerner said. “Out of all the places I applied, I felt like Troy was the place we could call home.”

Koerner said he finds joy in helping others.

“I wanted to be a doctor even when I was a little kid. I like working with people,” Koerner said. “I feel like I’ve done something good at the end of the day. I get joy out of helping others.”

The Troy Women’s Clinic is located at 143 Scouting Circle. The office hours for the clinic are Monday through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call (334) 770-2222.
