Annual chamber tournament a hit

Not even blistering cold weather and wind could keep 19 teams from competing for the 12th Annual Pike County Chamber of Commerce golf tournament championship at the Troy Country Club.

The team from Troy Bank & Trust took home the gross title and won cash and prizes, while the team from City of Troy grabbed the net title and won cash. The winners from TB&T donated the cash to the chamber.

“We had another good year and this tournament is always a good way for our local businesses to network and have some fun at the same time,” chamber director Jenniffer Barner said.

Barner said the number of teams is down from years past, but the event was still a hit and good for the Chamber.

The chamber added a new event to the docket for this year’s tournament. They added a putting contest and Eric Scott and Jason Ellis took home the Putt-Off Contest title that was held on the putting greens at the club.

“We added in the putting contest and it seemed to be a hit, so hopefully we can do it again and it can be a hit,” Barner said. “We also had a hole-in-one contest sponsored by Sanbuck worth $10,000 to the winner, but no one took that home.”

Barner said the chamber charged $5 to participate in the Putt-Off Contest and the pot was split with the winners.

The chamber had many door prizes on hand to hand out after the tournament was finished. All participants enjoyed hors douvres and drinks after the tournament in the members lounge.

Barner said the tournament was a big success again and she is already looking forward to next year.
