UPDATE: Troy University announced they will cancel classes beginning at 3 p.m. today.

All county offices and Pike Liberal Arts School will close at 1 p.m. today. Both Brundidge and Troy City Halls are expected to remain open until 5 p.m.

Pike County remains under threats of severe weather throughout the day, but the worst is reported to hit tonight.

Pike County Emergency Management Agency Director Larry Davis said likely between 6 p.m. and midnight, the worst weather is to come.

Residents should be cautious throughout the day, and expect the possibility of long-lived tornados.

Right now, the county is not under a tornado watch, but Davis said he anticipates there will be a threat this afternoon.

But unlike many surrounding counties, Davis said flooding should not be a threat for Pike County.

“Other than street flooding and minor flooding around, we’re really in pretty good shape,” Davis said. “We don’t have a major flood area.”

Still, he said residents should stay alert to weather radios through the day and be prepared to seek shelter in the event of severe weather.

Early this morning, Davis said a tornado was reported to touch down near the Troy Airport, but that has not been confirmed.

“Troy Police Department checked on it and couldn’t find anyone to confirm a tornado whatsoever,” Davis said.
