Mr. Johnny Kreis age 79 of Troy died Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 11:00 am from the St. Martin Catholic Church with Fathers Billy Fields and Eamon Miley officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte Brantley Kreis, two sons and daughters-in-law Tony and Lynn Kreis and Mike and Pam Kreis, his grandchildren Todd and Nicole Kreis, Bryant Kreis, Brantley Kreis, Casey Kreis, and Ashley Kreis, great granddaughter Summer Kreis, sister and brother-in-law Cornelia and Bill Sanford, sister-in-law Barbara Brantley, brother-in-law Max Wright, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Teresa Kreis, a son Pat Kreis and a granddaughter Lee Ann Kreis.
Mr. Kreis graduated from Troy State Teachers College and was a member of the “Red Wave” football team from 1947-1950. He then taught and coached basketball at Ariton High School in 1950. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1952. He then taught and coached football at Newton High School from 1952-1953. In 1953 he became an agent with State Farm Insurance Company and served as an agent until his retirement in 1999.
Active pallbearers will be David Jerkins, Denny Sanford, Doug Kelley, Wes Kelley, Dan Ballard, and John Rockett.
Honorary pallbearers will be the 1953 Newton High School football team, and the Julia’s morning coffee club.
