The Troy University Wesley Foundation is offering a “Taste of Heaven” to all who will come.

The fundraising event will be from 6:30 until 8 tonight at the Wesley Foundation at 203 East Street, behind the Collegedale Church of Christ.

“This is a first for us but we would like to make ‘Taste of Heaven’ an annual event,” said the Rev. Ashley Davis, Foundation director.

“The ‘Taste of Heaven’ is a fundraiser for the Wesley Foundation and a lot of people from the community are preparing dishes for tasting. We’ll have a variety of dishes – appetizers, sides, meats, vegetables and desserts. Beside each dish will be a donation cup where you can vote for your favorite dish.”

The dish with the most ‘votes’ will be judged the most “heavenly.”

Admission to the “Taste of Heaven” is $5 for adults and $3 for children and Troy University students with an ID.

The Wesley Foundation is the campus ministry of the United Methodist Church.

“Although we are a Methodist outreach ministry, we have students from all denominations who attend,” Davis said.

Weekly services at the Troy University Wesley Foundation include Tuesday lunch Bible Study at 11:30 a.m. at the Wesley, Wednesday lunch Bible study at noon at Saga and praise and worship at 7 p.m. at the Wesley, Thursday common meal at 5:15 p.m. at the Wesley and “Church” Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Wesley.

“We also offer opportunities to participate in retreats and mission trips,” Davis said. “Two weeks ago, we had a group that went to Camp Victor in Ocean Springs, Miss. to help rebuild homes of victims of Hurricane Katrina.”

The Troy University Wesley Foundation also has a Servant Team that is made up of eight individuals who are actively involved in the Wesley Foundation.

Their purpose is to serve their fellow students by organizing and planning all Wesley events and program.

The Wesley Foundation is funded through United Methodist Church apportionment and the donations of local churches.

“We also have a golf tournament and a few small fundraisers during the year,” Davis said.

“This is our first ‘Taste of Heaven’ fundraiser and we would like to invite everyone to come out an enjoy it with us.”

Davis has been the campus minister at the Troy University Wesley Foundation since 2001.

She graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

She then studied at the Candler School of Theology in Atlanta where she earned a master of divinity.
