Services for Mother Lela Mae Wright, age 78, of Brundidge, Ala., who died March 16, 2009, will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Jerusalem Temple, Banks, Ala., with Dr. S. D. James officiating.
Burial will take place at ethsemane Gardens under the direction of George F. Grubbs Funeral Home Inc.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at George F. Grubbs Funeral Home, Troy, Ala.
Lela Mae Wright was born in Spartanburg, S.C., to the late John H. and Beulah Blassingame.
She married Willie Charles Wright Sr. in 1948, and they relocated to New York.
To this union 14 children were born: Sylvia Lee and William Roosa (William), Wila Mae Edwards (Bruce), John Leon Wright (Francis), Earl Carson Wright (Lousonia), Beulah Mae Woolcock (Aldeimain), Alvin Lafette Wright (Elizabeth), Minnie Lucille Wright (Richard), Anna Marie Burris (Maxie), Charles Lee Wright, Jacqueline Mariah Rumph (Roy James), Lessie Lee Wright, Terry Dale Wright (Carrie Ann), and Dawn Adele Wright (George).
She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing the piano/keyboard until disabled by a stroke in 2004.
She loved the Lord and enjoyed singing hymns and gospel music. She was saved at the tender age of 13 and was a member of Jerusalem Temple in Banks, Ala. under the leadership of Dr. S. D. James, senior bishop, and Elder Earnest L. Lindsey, assistant pastor.
She lived in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., for many years, until she relocated to Brundidge, Ala. in 2005.
She is preceded in death by: her parents, John H. and Beulah Blassingame; her husband, Willie Charles Wright Sr.; 10 brothers; two sisters; and one son, Willie Charles Wright Jr.
Her survivors include: her children; one brother, Lafayette Blassingame (Mary) of Cincinatti, Ohio; 35 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great grandchildren, other relatives and special friends.
