Carolyn Freeman Hollis
Carolyn Freeman Hollis, the beloved wife of Dr. John W. (Bill) Hollis passed away on March 19. She died quietly with the peace and contentment that comes from knowing Jesus Christ as her Lord. She was born Dec. 31, 1930 in Troy, Ala. It was in Troy at the age of six in her first grade class that she met the man, Bill, who 17 years later would be her husband. Carolyn was raised by her loving parents, George and Elizabeth Freeman. She and her sister Rosalyn grew up enjoying a comfortable life, feeling love in the household, and knowing the love of God. Her great grandfather was the Rev. Frank Hardy, PhD, pastor of First Baptist Church in Troy, Ala. She devoted herself first to loving her husband Bill Hollis and then to her children, grand children and great-grandchild. She greatly enjoyed the companionship and love of Jean, her wonderful caregiver. She also appreciated the care giving and love of Lottie and Frances. After high school Carolyn attended Auburn University to work on receiving a degree in Mathematics. She later received both a degree in Mathematics and Education from Troy State University. Carolyn is survived by her husband Bill Hollis, her children, George Hollis (Marcia), Melanie OKeefe (Chris), Carol Paramore (Tim), and Ann Marie Hollingsworth. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alex Hollis, Adam OKeefe, William OKeefe, Mallory Hollingsworth, Kristen Hollingsworth and her sister Rosalyn Howard and her two children Mark and Danny Howard. She also has a great grandchild, Arial Hollingsworth. She was preceded in death by her grandson Cliff Hollis. The viewing will be at the First Baptist Church, 200 W. College St., Troy, Ala. 36081 at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 23. The service will be at 2 p.m. also at the First Baptist Church. The service will be officiated by the Reverend George Hollis. There will then be a procession to a short graveside service at Green Hills Cemetery.
