Williams shuts down Jaguars in Mobile, Troy wins

MOBILE ­— The Troy Trojans softball team knocked off the South Alabama Jaguars on Tuesday, 6-1.

Trojans pitcher Ashlyn Williams once again threw a no-hitter through six innings, but the Jaguars managed to scrape together a run on one hit in the seventh.

The one-hit performance is the second this season for Williams.

Troy (23-6, 6-0) scored three runs in the first inning, added two in the fifth and one more in the top of the seventh.

Troy got things started in the first inning when Hayden Gann singled to right field, to score Hillary Hughes and Kala Moore.

Gann scored on a single by Rocky Paige two batters later to give Troy a 3-0 lead entering the bottom half of the inning.

After three quiet innings from both sides, the Trojans tacked on two runs in the fourth.

Moore singled to center field to plate Felicia Hammer and Kaitlin Kenney.

The Trojans added one run in the seventh when Moore scored on a single from Tasha Elmore.

The Jaguars (12-15, 0-3) got their only hit and run of the game in the bottom half of the seventh.

Moore was 2-for-3 at the plate in the game with two RBIs, two runs scored and one walk.

Hughes was 2-for-4 with one run scored.

Elmore was also 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI.

On the mound, Williams (15-5) went the distance for the complete game, allowing one run on one hit.

She struck out 12 batters and walked three.
