One Troy man died in a fatal wreck Wednesday afternoon when he lost control of his vehicle and was ejected from his car.

Steven David Swindall, 48 of Troy, was driving his 1995 Chevrolet truck on County Road 5518, when he lost control of the vehicle, hit a curb taking him off the road and landed outside his vehicle.

“He left the roadway, struck several trees and was ejected from the car,” said Spokesman for the Alabama State Troopers Kevin Cook.

Cook said the wreck occurred about four miles south of Troy, when Swindall was traveling eastbound.

Cook said Swindall was traveling above the posted speed limit and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

But, for the Swindall family, Steven was not the only loss they experienced Wednesday.

John David Swindall, 71, who was Steven’s father, also died Wednesday after battling cancer.

Both John and Steven were members of the Masonic Lodge, John in Brundidge and Steven in Troy.

“John was a dedicated and member of the Brundidge Lodge for many years,” said Lamar Tatom, Mason.

“When John became ill, he was unable to come like he had. But he came last Tuesday night when we had a Third Degree and really seemed to enjoy being with all of us. His son Ricky who is also a member of the Troy Lodge brought him. We were glad that we got to spend that time with John.”

Tatom said Steven was also a dedicated Mason, and both men will be missed.

“This is a real tragedy and our hearts and prayers go out to the family,” Tatom said.

Graveside services for this father and son will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 13, at Green Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. Masonic honors will be conducted at the graveside.
