Mary Holland

Mary Jean Holland departed this life on March 4, 2009 after a lengthy illness.
Born on Dec. 22, 1934 in Troy, Ala., she was the daughter of the late L.E. Whaley and Elizabeth Whaley McGarity.
Ms. Holland was a member of the First Baptist Church of Valdosta since moving to Valdosta in 1963 where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She helped her husband start Holland Oil Company and was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a member of the Garden Club of Valdosta and the Cabaret club of Valdosta and a volunteer with several local and national civic and charitable organizations.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, William J. (Bill) Holland, daughters and their husbands, Karen and Richard Reissiger, Pam and Bo Woodward, Lisa and Jamie Harris; son and his wife Bill and Marie Holland; grandchildren Colby Harris, Eric Reissiger, Brent Harris, Shelly Woodward, Cal Reissiger, Chase Woodward, Trav Harris, Elizabeth Holland, Troy Woodward, Haley Jane Holland and William Edward Holland, Jr.; sister, Ann Sheppard of Mobile, Ala. and brother and sister in law, Alex and Jane Whaley of Troy, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her step father John McGarity of Troy, Ala.
She also leaves to cherish many many close and beloved friends and countless extended family members whose acts of kindness and consideration in her time of illness are greatly appreciated.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2009 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
Reverend Mac Weaver and Reverend Art Harris will officiate. Interment will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens on North Valdosta Road.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service on Friday at the funeral home from 2 until 4 p.m.
