Two wrecks occurred in Pike County Monday, leaving one with critical injuries and the other led a driver to flee the scene.

Around 8:45 a.m. Monday, seven miles south of Troy, a Luverne man was transported to Baptist South in Montgomery by helicopter after his car collided with a Coca Cola truck.

Fred Moman, 78 of Luverne, was traveling on Highway 29, when he veered into the opposite lane and was hit by a 1999 Coca Cola truck, said Kevin Cook, public information officer for the Alabama State Troopers.

Moman was driving a 2003 Chevrolet, and he is in stable condition at the hospital.

The driver of the truck has been identified as Aaron Burton, 25 of Millbrook.

Troopers were assisted by Pike County Rescue and the Pike County Sheriff’s Department.

In a separate incident, Troy Police are still investigating after two vehicles collided Monday afternoon, and one of the drivers fled the scene on foot.

Troy Public Information Officer Sgt. Benny Scarbrough said he did not have much information on the wreck as of press time Monday, but he believes the fleeing subject was brought back to the scene of the wreck.

Scarbrough said around 5 p.m. Monday, two vehicles collided on Elba Highway, near the Magnolia Wood Lodge. He did not have names of the drivers or descriptions of the vehicles, but officers said the driver of one vehicle allegedly took off from the scene on foot.

Scarbrough said police did bring one person back to the scene, but he had not been identified as the driver yet.

There were possibly injuries in the incident, but Scarbrough said he wasn’t sure the extent of injuries or conditions of the victims in early investigations.
