LAFAYETTE, La. — The Troy University women’s basketball team earned a home game in the opening round of the Sun Belt Tournament in with a resounding 93-52 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette Wednesday night.

With the victory and losses by Florida Atlantic and New Orleans, Troy (14-13, 9-8 Sun Belt) earned a spot to host a first round tournament game.

The Trojans are tied for the fifth spot with Denver and Arkansas State heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

Alyce Shearing and Kylie Morrissy combined to lead the Trojans with 38 points, with two others in doubles figures on the night.

Morrissy led the Trojans with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor, while Shearing added 18 on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor.

Brittnie Davis added 11 and Donette McNair 10 in the victory.

ULL was led by Jasmine Barnes with 12 and Alexis Green with 10.

Troy shot 54 (34-of-63) percent from the floor and 47.4 (9-of-19) percent from beyond the arc.

They also shot 72.7 (16-of-22) percent from the charity stripe, while outrebounding Louisiana-Lafayette 45-32.

Troy returns to action Saturday night against South Alabama at Trojan Arena.

The game is set to tip at 5:15 p.m.
