Goshen’s Lady Eagles made it a game for about five minutes, but 25 turnovers and a 23 percent shooting percentage from the floor doomed GHS in the AHSAA Class 2A Central Regional semifinals Tuesday evening.

The Lady Eagles (9-9) lost 69-30 at Alabama State University in Montgomery.

“They came out there and they wanted it more than us,” GHS head coach Lindsey Hornbuckle said. “They got after the ball, they sprinted, they hustled and they did everything that they were supposed to fundamentally do and we couldn’t catch up.”

The Lady Bobcats jumped out to a 7-2 lead with 4:15 left in the first quarter, but Ivia Pollard cut the lead to 7-4 with 3:15 remaining in the quarter. R.C. Hatch railed off 10 straight points to end the quarter with a 17-4 lead and Goshen never threatened the lead again.

“I feel like when they (R.C. Hatch) made that run and got up by seven, eight then 10 points that was the hinge for us,” Hornbuckle said. “Even though that was the first quarter, it just seemed like we gave up and I hated that was the way we ended our season.”

Hatch led 38-8 after one half of action. The Lady Bobcats outscored GHS 31-22 in the second half.

Pollard led the scoring for Goshen with 12 points. Diamond Cottrell had seven points and 11 rebounds. DeAnna McLeod and Shelby Jo Vinson chipped in four points apiece.
