Trojans softball splits DH with Mercer

STATESBORO, GA — The Troy Trojans softball team split a pair of games with the Mercer Bears at Georgia Southern’s Eagle Field Saturday.

The Trojans (7-2) won the first game 6-2, but back-to-back home runs from the Bears in the second game helped Mercer get the split.

The Trojans first inning success continued in game one. The Trojans punched in four runs in the first inning.

A Nikki Hollett single started the scoring when she drove in Kala Moore.

A Tasha Elmore home run pushed in Heidi Johnson and Hollet to put the Trojans up 4-0.

The Trojans added a run in each of the second and third innings, and held the Bears scoreless until the bottom of the seventh.

Ashlyn Williams (6-1) picked up the win for Troy.

In game two, the Trojans were held scoreless in the first inning for the first time in the weekend’s four games.

Sarah Stukes and Emi Sherrill of Mercer hit home runs back-to-back in the top of the second inning to put Mercer up 2-0 and the Bears allowed only one Trojan run for the victory.

Katie Ely scored Troy’s lone run in the bottom of the third.

Allison Moore (1-1) took the loss on the mound for Troy.
