Pike County’s Lady Bulldogs will attempt to claim an area championship Thursday on the road in Abbeville at the area tournament.

PCHS head coach Kasey Parker said her team is excited and confident for its opening game against Headland.

“We have been working on our shooting all week because that has been a problem for us, but our girls are ready for this tournament,” Parker said.

There has been a different atmosphere at practice for the 4-14 Lady ‘Dawgs that were 1-5 in area play during the regular season.

“That win over Goshen (Saturday) has given these girls a different attitude for practice,” Parker said. “They are getting after it and getting ready for a scrappy Headland team.”

The beauty of the area tournament is that all teams are 0-0, Parker said.

“We are a young team and we have grown up as a team throughout the year,” she said. “They have been getting better each game and it seemed to click Saturday. We are ready for Headland.”

The Lady Bulldogs and Headland square off at 5 p.m. Thursday in Abbeville.
