Taylor Road’s Tigers were too much for the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots to handle Monday night in Troy. The No. 2 Tigers left Pike with a 61-52 win.

“They took a four-point lead in the first half and we came back to tie it up before halftime and we had things going our way,” PLAS head coach Mike Barbaree said. “But they are just quick and bigger than we are. We didn’t do a good job with their pressure.”

The Tigers surpassed 50 rebounds in the game and dominated PLAS on the boards all night.

“We got no second shots and they would get three or four sometimes,” Barbaree said. “We didn’t play well tonight, but that comes from the pressure that they force. Taylor Road has a good ball team.”

Douglas Hawkins led the Patriots with 14 points. Justin McLaughlin had 12 points and eight rebounds and Ross Hixon added 10 points.

The JV boys beat Taylor Road 38-22 and Michael Maestri posted a double-double for the Pats with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Stewart Pinckard added 13 points and eight rebounds. Chandler Avant had six points and Nick McLaughlin had five points, 13 rebounds and five steals.
