Major Wilbur Singleton surrendered to Troy Police on Saturday, one week after he walked away from the scene of a wreck on U.S. 231 that left a Mobile couple critically injured.

According to information from Troy Police Chief Anthony Everage, the week-long manhunt for Singleton – which was spearheaded by the Alabama State Troopers – ended at 10 p.m. Saturday when Singlelton turned himself in to the Troy Police. He was charged with two counts of assault first degree and one count of failure to aid the injured. Each charge carries a $50,000 bond.

Singleton is believed to have been driving a white Chevrolet Lumina, which crashed into the Nissan Altima driven by Henry Lee Whitaker of Mobile. His wife, Joann, was a passenger in the vehicle and both were critically injured.

Witnesses reported that Singelton walked away from the wreck, which occurred at the intersection of County Road 3310 and U.S. 231.

A manhunt ensued, led by the Traffic Homicide Division of the Alabama State Troopers.
