A man who “walked off” from the Pike County Veterans Home Wednesday evening was found dead in Ozark.

Roger Dale Foley, a 58-year-old resident of the facility, was reported missing to the Troy Police Department at 9 a.m. Friday, according to information from Chief Anthony Everage.

Within 40 minutes, Troy Police had issued an alert to area law enforcement agencies. By 11:15 a.m. Friday, Ozark Police had identified Foley as the man they had found dead in a vehicle Thursday morning at Budget Motors.

Police did not provide information about how Foley may have reached Ozark, but reports indicate he died of natural causes.

Jimmy C. Scott, director of the Pike County Veterans Home, was reluctant to address the nearly 40-hour lapse between Foley’s disappearance and a report being filed with the police department

“He wandered off a couple of days ago,” Scott said. “There’s not too much to talk about.”

Scott said Foley had a history of walking away from the facility on North Three Notch Street.

“He’s the only one we ever had trouble with walking-off,” Scott said.

Scott said Foley had been found “a couple of times at a coffee shop on 231. And, one time we got him out of Dothan,” Scott said, adding that one time center staff found Foley walking along U.S. 231 South near Wal-Mart. “Usually, we always find him.”

When Foley disappeared at approximately 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Scott said “we called his social worker and told her about it.”

Then, “we looked for him Wednesday night, Thursday and Thursday night,” Scott said.

No information about Foley’s family or services was available.
