Eady Pinckard posted yet another double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds, Rebecca Farrar chipped in 12 points and the No. 6 Lady Patriots of Pike Liberal Arts upset the No. 2 Glenwood Lady Gators Friday night in Troy, 43-23.

“It was a great game for us,” PLAS head coach Steven Kilcrease said. “We played the best defensive game we have played all year.”

Pike Liberal (8-7, 4-3 AISA Class AAA, Region 1) pressured Glenwood into submission, allowing only 10 points in the first half to grab a commanding 30-10 lead. The Lady Patriots did not let up in the second half and protected their home court.

“We have been looking for a game like this one,” Kilcrease said. “We knew we had it in us and we needed a win against a quality team like that. We talk all the time about defending our home court, especially in region play. And we did that Friday night.”

But Kilcrease said he knows Glenwood will be looking to do the same thing when Pike travels to Smiths Station Jan. 23.

“They will be ready for us,” he said.

The win propels the Lady Patriots back to the left side of .500 in both overall record and area record. Kilcrease said his team needs to keep pushing towards the goal of a high ranking for the region tournament.

“This week will be huge for us with home games against Taylor Road and Fort Dale and that road game at Glenwood,” Kilcrease said. “It is a tough week and we will know a lot more about the region after this week.”

She may not have scored many points, but Kilcrease said a large part of the defensive stop Friday was because of the play of Kelly Cash.

“I thought Kelly played really well and she had her best game of the year,” Kilcrease said. “She did not have a lot of points, but she played really good defense and she caused a lot of problems for Glenwood.”

Katie Wiggins chipped in nine points for PLAS and the Lady Patriots got points from seven members of the team, something Kilcrease said he was glad to see.

The varsity Patriots (7-8, 2-5) also beat Glenwood Friday night, 56-45. Ross Hixon led the team with 22 points, Douglas Hawkins added 10 points and Justin McLaughlin had nine points. The JV Patriots (9-2) took out Glenwood 33-32

Stewart Pinckard led PLAS with 15 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots. Chandler Avant added six points and Nick McLaughlin had six points, 14 rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

Pike Liberal hosts Taylor Road tomorrow beginning with the JV girls’ game at 4 p.m.
