The Pike County Lady Bulldogs experienced something they had not yet experienced Tuesday evening when they took down the Dale County Lady Warriors 36-29 in Brundidge.

The win was the team’s first area victory and third overall victory.

“It was a good area win for us,” PCHS head coach Kasey Parker said. “And if we can win out without beating Abbeville we can grab second in the area.”

The Lady Bulldogs (3-9, 1-2 AHSAA Class 3A, Area 4) did not start the game how Parker would have liked, but they finished it in grand fashion. PCHS outscored Dale County 27-12 in the second half after being down 17-9 at halftime.

“We came out flat and they were waiting for the second half to play,” Parker said. “They would make my job a whole lot easier if they would show up at tip off like they do in the second half every game.”

The telling quarter was the final one, as the Lady ‘Dawgs outscored the Lady Warriors 16-8 in the fourth.

“They came alive in the fourth and I had to get onto them at halftime for them to do it,” Parker said.

PCHS led 21-20 heading into the fourth quarter and Dale County stayed close until Kim Hamilton hit a three-pointer to put the Lady Bulldogs up 29-25 with four minutes to play. The only other scare was when the Lady Warriors cut the lead to 31-29 with nearly three minutes to play, but Tierra Hall hit a three-pointer and a layup to put PCHS up 36-29 and neither team scored in the final minutes.

Hall led the team with 15 points. Hamilton chipped in 10 points. Ronique Boyd added seven points. Ashley Flowers had three points and Monique Mills had one free throw.

The Lady Bulldogs host Headland Friday. The Lady ‘Dawgs lost the first matchup Monday, 57-40.
