The Troy Parks and Recreation basketball league is now in full swing and youth activities director David Dickey is now focused on preparing for the biggest season of the year.

Dickey and the TPRD are preparing postcards to send out to the many families in the Troy area to let them know it is almost time for baseball and softball.

“We are gearing up for baseball and softball season,” Dickey said. “There is a lot of work to get the ball rolling on that.”

Dickey said the rec department is expecting another big year for the spring season.

Baseball and softball garner the most interest as far as youth sports are concerned in the Troy area and the season has the possibility to last from April to August.

But the preparation time plus game time stretches the time frame from January to August.

Dickey said the next three months would be full of preparation with coaches meetings, state meetings and many other kinds of meetings.

“February is a busy month of preparation and the teams will have the month of March to practice,” Dickey said.

Opening Night for the baseball and softball season will be April 3 at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium on Troy University’s campus.

Opening Day for games will be the next day at the Troy Sportsplex.
