Wins have come few and far between for the Charles Henderson boys’ basketball team since the Trojans opened the season 2-0 in the Enterprise Tournament, but the team notched a win in its first area game Tuesday night.

The Trojans took out Carroll in Ozark 45-29 to snap a six-game losing skid.

“We were blessed to get a win tonight,” CHHS head coach Carl Hollis said. “I was pleased with how we played in the second half. We got a tough win on the road and it was very good for us to get a win.”

The key to the win was stingy defense in the second half. The Eagles managed only eight points in the second half.

“We upped our defense in the second half and forced a lot of turnovers,” Hollis said.

Troy (5-9, 1-0 AHSAA Class 5A, Area 3) was able to keep the Eagles (9-5, 0-1) in check for the entire second half, according to Hollis.

The CHHS girls came out of Ozark 54-44 win. The Lady Trojans (6-6, 1-0) trailed by one in the first half, but came back with strong defense in the second.

“We stepped it up a notch on defense in the second half for the win,” CHHS head coach Dyneshia Jones said.

Erica Henderson paced CHHS with 23 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Niara Shipman had 17 points and Amiria Blakely and Cameron Debose combined for 14 points.
