Several people have been arrested this week in connections with unrelated burglaries in Troy and Brundidge.

The Troy Police Department have arrested three adults and two juveniles for incidents related to burglaries at apartments on Gibbs Street and Elm Street, said Troy Police Chief Anthony Everage.

In addition, a third juvenile will be taken into custody later in the week on charges of receiving stolen property.

Joe Stevens Smith, 56 of Troy, Darrell Lavan Williams, 36 of Troy, and Ryan Pickett Haddigan, 33 of Goshen, were arrested on Dec. 15 and 16.

Smith and Williams have been charged with receiving stolen property, and Haddigan has been charged with burglary second degree.

According to Everage, Haddigan was arrested at Troy Place Apartments around 3 a.m. Sunday Dec. 14, after he allegedly broke into an occupied apartment.

Police recovered evidence from the apartment where he was taken into custody.

Smith’s and William’s bonds were set at $2,500 each and Haddigan’s at $50,000.

All three were transported to the Pike County Jail.

Everage said he anticipates more arrests to come from several instances where vehicles and apartments were burglarized in the last few months.

Pike County District Attorney Gary McAliley said instances like these will not be taken lightly in prosecution.

“We’re going to prosecute those with everything we have,” McAliley said. “The DA’s office in Pike County is working with the Troy Police Department and Sheriff’s department, and we plan to prosecute people who buy stolen property where it was obvious they knew or should have known it was stolen.”

McAliley said he expects crimes like these to increase as the economy continues to become more harsh, but he will not back down.

And, in an unrelated incident, the Brundidge police have arrested five people on charges of burglary first degree.

“They allegedly broke into a man’s house and attacked him,” said Brundidge Police Chief Moses Davenport. “They asked him to borrow $5, and then they got into an altercation, and they ransacked the house.”

Brandon Harper, 18, and Lawrence Reynolds, 21, were both transported to the Pike County Jail and charged with burglary first degree. Three other juveniles were also arrested.

Davenport said the five never stole anything from the home on the corner of Bowden and Carwell Street, but evidence revealed it was a crime.
