The Goshen Eagles were able to take something out of their road trip to Ozark Tuesday night.

It was not a win, but the Eagles (2-5) were able to take a valuable lesson from a 61-33 loss to the Class 5A Eagles of Ozark.

“We held a two-point lead at halftime, but we only scored two points in the second half,” GHS head coach Jonathan Deveridge said. “Our guys lost focus in the second half.”

Goshen led 26-24, but the Eagles lost focus and lost their scoring drive when senior Tyreese Wingard was ejected after his second technical foul nearly three minutes into the second half.

“He is in the middle of our offense and when he was ejected we lost a key portion of our offense,” Deveridge said. “It was a situation where they called him for unsportsmanlike conduct for slamming the ball down and it was his second technical foul.”

Antwan Boswell led Goshen in scoring with 17 points.

Deveridge told his team after the game that they needed to find the fire they played with in the first half Friday when they open up region play against Reeltown at home. Tip off is at 4:30 p.m. for the B team.

The Lady Eagles also lost Tuesday, 56-29. But GHS head coach Lindsey Hornbuckle said the night was not all bad.

“In the fourth quarter we finally slowed the game down and played our game rather than playing their game,” she said. “We were down 45 at one point, so it was good to cut it to 27 to end the game, especially since they are a 5A school. We were not doing the fundamental things right and we can work on those. At least they are working hard and giving it their all out there.”

The Lady Eagles (1-2) face Reeltown as well Friday in their region opener.
