A free Holiday Concert will be held at 7 p.m. today at The Studio in downtown Troy and the public is invited. The Holiday Concert is part of a series of concerts offered The Studio throughout the year.

The concert will feature the Troy Brass, a Troy University student/faculty brass ensemble, and the first concert appearance of the new Troy-Pike Youth Orchestra.

Ginger Zingara, youth orchestra director, said the concert will be a mixture of music – classical style and Christmas carols.

The youth orchestra is comprised of nine members, most of whom attended the String Camp offered at the Troy-Pike Cultural Arts Studio Annex during the summer.

The camp was formed because there is no place in the area for young people to learn to play string instruments. A new class will be formed in the fall, and Zingara is hopeful even more young people will be interested in learning to play a string instrument.

“The members of the Troy-Pike Youth Orchestra are from ages 8 to 17 and play the violin and cello,” Zingara said. “At the Holiday Concert tonight, we will have two soloists, Soobin Park, who will play ‘Joy to the World,’ and Carly Smith, who will play ‘Silent Night.’ Both will play the cello.”

At the conclusion of the concert, the Troy Brass and the Troy-Pike Youth Orchestra will play a Christmas medley together. The program will last about an hour.
