Brundidge police are searching for a suspect who robbed the city’s branch of Troy Bank and Trust on Friday.

About five minutes before closing Friday afternoon, a man walked into the bank, passed a note to the clerk and left with $2,500, said Brundidge Police Chief Moses Davenport.

“He passed a note saying ‘Give me $2,500. I’ve got a gun,’” Davenport said. “He reached in to grab the money and left.”

Davenport said he isn’t sure what type of gun was allegedly used in the robbery, since the clerk never saw the weapon.

The suspect is described as a black male, just under 6 feet tall. At the time of the incident, he was dressed in all black and was wearing white sneakers.

Davenport said the clerk might have seen the suspect walk into the bank about 30 minutes prior to when the robbery occurred. Davenport said they are working on getting video pictures of the suspect from the surveillance camera.

The FBI and the Pike County Sheriff’s Department are assisting the Brundidge police in the investigation.

Troy Bank and Trust Marketing Officer Dianna Lee said she could confirm the Brundidge branch did get robbed, and there were no injuries.

“We are working with law enforcement to apprehend the person who did this,” Davenport said.

Davenport said the Brundidge robbery does not appear to be related to a weekend bank robbery in Dothan. “We don’t think so, but we never know,” Davenport said. “Because there was a rash of robberies going on, they may have been connected in some way.”
