Renowned wildlife photographer Bob Joslin is going back to Kenya, and he is extending an open invitation for others to join him on this photographic safari.

The rather rare opportunity is planned for May 9-23, 2009.

“This 14-day photographic safari is an all-inclusive trip from Nairobi, Kenya,” said Joslin, who is director of photographer at Troy University.

“Those who make this safari will be able to capture all the beauty, culture and history of this wonderful land. The photographs and memories will last a lifetime,” he added.

The cost of the photographic safari is $6,800 and covers the cost of the full 14-day safari.

A deposit of $2,000 per person is required with full payment due on or before Jan. 10, 2009.

The safari is limited to 16 people.

The 2009 African safari will be the sixth consecutive photographic safari that Joslin has led.

“All of the safaris have been successful,” Joslin said. “We are looking forward to another successful one this year even though money is tight.”

In addition to providing an opportunity for photographers to participate in a safari designed especially for them, Joslin is also sponsoring an African photographic essay contest for elementary and secondary school students.

Joslin has chosen three of his safari photographs as “subjects” for the essay contest. They include a portrait of a lion, two cheetahs and a landscape of the African countryside.

“Students are asked to write a creative essay based on one of the photographs,” Joslin said. “Each one will be judged and the award will be based on creativity and style. The winner will receive a $50 cash prize.”

Joslin said the purpose of the essay contest is to interest students and their parents in the safari and to educate them about the fantastic African wildlife. Essays should be 500 words and the deadline for submission is Jan. 4, 2009. Essays are to be mailed to Bob Joslin, 517 Girard Ave., Dothan, 36303.
