A woman facing charges in South Carolina for her daughter’s death four years ago was arrested this week in Troy.

Courtney Sue Braddock, 28, was arrested at her residence at 124 Trojan Way and has been charged with homicide by child abuse, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division reported Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred on Nov. 14, 2004 in Florence County, South Carolina, when Braddock, while under the influence of heroin and cocaine, passed out when she was holding her infant daughter, killing the child.

The infant, Abby Braddock, was five months old.

According to the arrest warrant, Braddock told South Carolina investigators in a taped interview she was coming off Oxycontin and was unable to care for herself or her daughter.

SLED Spokesman Jennifer Timmons said she isn’t sure how long Braddock was living in Pike County before her arrest, but she had lived in several states since the incident.

“She kept giving inconsistent accounts of what happened to police,” Timmons said.

Pike County District Attorney Gary McAliley said Braddock has family in the county, and that’s why she was living in Troy.

Braddock was taken to the Florence County Jail, and a bond hearing was held Tuesday.

Homicide by child abuse is a felony punishable 20 years to life in prison.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigations assisted with the case.
