Brundidge City Council announced Tuesday they have been awarded a $33,000 grant to update their city’s plan.

“We’re excited to get it,” said Brundidge Mayor Jimmy Ramage. “We haven’t done one in many years, and it’s always good to get the city to sit down and make a plan.”

The grant, awarded by ADECA, will allow the city to create a plan similar to what the city of Troy has been working on developing.

Ramage said the plan will allow the city to reexamine their zoning ordinances, transportation and several other aspects of city life.

Now that the grant has been awarded, the next step will be to just wait.

“We’ll have to wait for it to become official, and then we’ll get the time table laid out,” Ramage said.

As part of the grant agreement, the city will have to pay around $11,000 into the grant.

And more than a month into the fiscal year, the city of Brundidge is still operating without an updated budget, but not for long.

Council members agreed to meet Nov. 10 and 13 at 4 p.m. at City Hall to plan the year’s budget.

Looking ahead, some key issues the city will face are the Brundidge Library project and distributing appropriations.

“There’s been several things discussed that they’ll have to give their attention to as they begin to develop the budget,” Thomas said.

Ramage said they hope to be ready to pass the budget by the next city council meeting Nov. 18.

Also in the council meeting, a new Latino dance club was denied a liquor license.

After inspection, city officials determined the club’s future home off Church Street does not meet zoning ordinance requirements, which is why the license was denied.

“It just doesn’t work,” said City Manager Britt Thomas.

Thomas said the limited parking spaces were the reason the club doesn’t meet requirements.
