Dear Editor:

It seems the political climate in our nation has been more divisive than any I have ever witnessed in my lifetime. We call ourselves a Christian

Nation, but it seems we have shown the world how selfish, greedy and deceitful we can be .I was at a social function recently when a comment was made and the “N” word was used.

The only person there who was African American was a young lady about the age of my daughter. I could tell it hurt her deeply and I wanted to go over and hug her and say it would be alright.

But things are not alright with a lot of people in this country. I have heard a lot of people who are supposed to be Christians make some pretty nasty comments lately.

These comments have come from both sides of the political landscape. My Bible teaches me to love all people, no matter what their station in life may be. As we watch the stock market decline and our children march off to war, our leaders seem to be disconnected with the real problems at hand. The problem is that we have become so self centered and greed that we don’t care about the needs of others anymore.

Until we unite as a nation and start looking to God for answers we will continue to make a downward spiral. The challenges for the new president will be overwhelming without the total commitment of all the American people. It cannot be done unless we unite and commit to making this a better place for all our people.

So no matter who you vote for be sure to pray for our leaders and let them know how you feel about decisions they are making in Washington.

This country belongs to the people and not politicians. An old timer once told me, “Our leaders are only as good as the people they represent,” so don’t sit there complaining, get up and start doing something for the good of humanity.

It’s about time we start living up to the words, “Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
