In the spirit of Election Day, the Troy University School of Music and the Troy-Pike Cultural Arts Center have a treat for the community.

After the citizens of Pike County have done their patriot duty today and no matter who wins or loses, the sound of music will be heard in Troy tonight.

Troy University and the TPCAC will present an Election Day Concert at 7 p.m. in The Cultural Arts Studio on East Walnut Street. The concert is free and the public is invited.

“The Election Day Concert is a continuation of our Concerts in the Studio series,” said Dr. Jim Zingara, assistant professor Troy University School of Music. “The Election Day Concert will be a student ensemble showcase and begin when the polls close. We know that people will want to get home to follow the election results so we’re starting the concert a little early.”

And, there will be a twist to the concert. A television monitor will be set up in the middle of the ‘action” so everyone can keep up with the results as they come in.

“Of course, this will be a non-partisan crowd so you’ll have to cheer ‘inside,’” Zingara said, laughing.

Thirteen Troy University groups totaling about 70 musicians will present the hour-long concert.

“This will not be the kind of concert where one group plays and the audience claps and another group plays,” Zingara said. “The groups will not be on stage but will ‘circle’ the Studio so there will be a kaleidoscope of sound coming at you all the time.”

The woodwind and brass ensembles will begin the concert by playing The National Anthem.

“Being Election Day, we wanted to get into the patriotic spirit,” Zingara said. “But the ensembles will play different kinds of music – fairly modern, classical, Baroque, pops – different instruments and different instrument combinations. The Election Day Concert will literally be a potpourri of music from the School of Music that has never been performed in a public forum. It will be a cross section of things that the school does well.”

Everyone is invited to attend this special Election Day concert.
