The Troy Trojans cracked the Top-25 last week with a 45-17 victory over North Texas.

It was not the Top-25 of the USA Today or AP poll, but the NCAA team offensive leaders rankings.

Troy (5-2, 4-0 Sun Belt) is averaging 34 points per game this year and they square off with the University of Louisiana-Monroe (2-6, 1-3) Warhawks tomorrow, who are averaging 25.1 points per game.

The Trojans head into the game with an undefeated conference record and senior free safety Tavares Williams wants to keep it that way.

“Going undefeated in the conference was one of our goals heading into the season because last year we got a share of the title and we didn’t want that again,” Williams said. “We wanted to go undefeated to make sure we won the conference.”

But Williams said the Trojans would make sure to not take La.-Monroe lightly this weekend.

“They are better than their record shows and we understand there is a bull’s-eye on our heads,” Williams said. “They have some good athletes, so this will not be an easy game. We will just stay focused, play Trojan ball and we will come out on top.”

Troy is on a three-game win streak in conference play after losing two-straight to No. 13 Ohio State and No. 9 Oklahoma State, respectively. The Trojans will be without backup quarterback Tanner Jones and wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan, but the head coach Larry Blakeney is optimistic for the future.

“We need to put our best foot forward this week against Monroe,” Blakeney said. “We always need to be prepared for what comes along.”

The Trojans are hurting in many areas.

“We have guys that are banged up on defense who have been playing hurt this year,” he said. “And the loss of the two quarterbacks this year hurts, but it is part of the game. It is an ugly part of the game that we don’t like to deal with, but a part nonetheless.”

The Trojans and Warhawks kickoff at 6 p.m. in Monroe, La. Saturday.
