Sunday, Oct. 26 will be a special day for the residents at Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The Center will host Fall Festival Day and the community is invited to be a part of this “big” day for the residents, said Jeanette Dawkins, Center activities director.

“The Fall Festival is a chance for the residents to come together and enjoy an afternoon of fun, food and games,” Dawkins said. “It’s also a good time for the people of our community to enjoy an afternoon with our residents and to see what we do to provide fun and entertainment for them.”

The Fall Festival will be from 2 until 4 p.m. and the atmosphere will be much like that of an old-time carnival.

“Many of our residents will remember when they went to carnivals or fairs and played games and ate cotton candy and popcorn,” Dawkins said. “The Fall Festival will bring back happy memories for many of our them as well as provide an afternoon of fun and entertainment.”

Activities planned include a cookie walk, go fishing, ring toss, duck pond, a beanbag toss and a hoola hoop race.

Troy Health and Rehab sponsors special quarterly events for the residents and they usually coincide with seasonal events.

Dawkins said the harvest season is carnival time and was, for many of the residents, an exciting and much anticipated time.

“We invite and encourage the families and friends of our residents to share this special time with them,” she said. “And we also invite the community join us. We have residents who don’t have family in the area and others who don’t have many visitors. This is a good time to get acquainted with these residents. They really enjoy having someone visit them.”

Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center has an adopt-a-resident program designed to put residents together with members of the community.

“Those who adopt a resident spend time talking with them or reading to them,” Dawkins said. “And they are often with them during special events. Some church groups adopt a resident and members of the group take turns visiting. This means a lot to our residents and we invite the people of our community to consider adopting a resident.”
