On the night Goshen volleyball seniors Jasmine Jones, Kristen Dease and Sarah “Garbage can” Morrow were honored, the Lady Eagles fell at the hands of the Zion Chapel Lady Rebels, 3-0 (25-10, 25-7, 25-22).

“We struggled getting our serves over in the first game and we never quite recovered,” GHS head coach Dee Hughes said. “But we started working better as a team in the third game.”

Hughes and the Lady Eagles (4-10, 1-3 AHSAA Class 2A, Area 5) didn’t get the last regular season match, but Hughes is pleased with where the team is heading into the area tournament.

“We are getting better towards the end of the season and we are making adjustments,” Hughes said. “It is a good thing that we are better now that we are peaking heading into the area tournament.”

Kelli Behrens and Cheyenne Nelson led the Lady Rebels with six kills apiece and Behrens added 12 points on her serve.

The Lady Eagles took down Highland Home Monday for their first area win, 3-0 and lost to Red Level Tuesday, 3-1.

The area tournament begins Oct. 13 at Zion Chapel with the Lady Eagles squaring off with Highland Home for a third time.

Game time has not been determined.
