The Goshen Eagles have been on a roll as of late. The Eagles thrashed their way through Bulldog Stadium in Brundidge two weeks ago then they dominated R.C. Hatch on the road last week. The Eagles are back in town this Friday and they want to keep the intensity high for the third week in a row for their Homecoming game against Frances Marion.

“Our guys have started playing together for the same purpose,” Eagles head coach Joe Thornton said. “We’ve got some confidence right now, and a big part of being good is thinking you’re good too. Our team chemistry has finally fallen into place.”

The Eagles have scored 95 points in the last two weeks, and they hope to keep their fast-paced, high-speed offense rolling in high gear again this week against the Rams.

The Eagles will face a 4-3 Rams defense that likes to blitz opposing teams.

“They will be bringing everybody on the blitz,” Thornton said.

Goshen hopes their pistol offensive attack will keep the Marion defense disoriented and confused.

“That’s the good thing about our offense,” Thornton said, “Nobody else does it and that has been the advantage.”

The Goshen defense will have to stop a versatile offense that runs both the spread and the I-formation.

“They have good receivers and an athletic quarterback,” Thornton said.

Thornton said the biggest factor for the Eagles this week is keeping their focus on the game.

“We have to try and not get caught up in the Homecoming festivities,” Thornton said. “We just have to keep our focus on the game.”

The Goshen Eagles are edging closer and closer to earning a playoff berth, and a win against Marion this week puts them a step closer. Marion’s only win was against winless Highland Home.

The Eagles face Highland Home in their next contest.

The Homecoming kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night in the Eagles Nest.
