The fourth quarter had just started, and the Charles Henderson Trojans had forced the Beauregard Hornets into a punting situation. The Trojans trailed 21-10 when Beauregard got off a short punt that hit a Trojan lineman in the back. The Hornets recovered the live ball, virtually sealing the Trojans fate Friday night.

The Hornets drove 42 yards for their final touchdown, pushing the score to 28-10.

The Trojans would score again in the game, but Beauregard managed to burn 6:16 off of the clock in the fourth quarter, and time worked against the Trojans.

“We just didn’t play good,” Trojans head coach Hugh Fountain said. “We’ve lost three in a row now for whatever reason, and we’re just not playing good football.”

Amidst the Trojans three-game losing streak, they have allowed Valley, Theodore and Beauregard to combine for 100 points.

“It’s real gut-check time for us on the season,” Fountain said. “We’re just not playing good football overall.”

Chris James punched in the first touchdown of the night, but the Trojans’ Dimitri Haynes blocked the PAT.

Junior quarterback K.D. Edenfield handed the ball off to Billy Neal, but Neal was stripped of the ball and the Hornets recovered. The Hornet defender raced 30 yards downfield for another Beauregard touchdown in as many plays.

The Hornets lead was 13-0 with 11:16 left in the half.

The Trojans set up again from their own 20 yard line, only this time it would be the beginning of a 12-play, 80-yard touchdown drive.

The Trojans were in business trailing by just six points with 5:18 left in the half.

Beauregard responded to the Trojans touchdown in quick fashion.

James scored on a four-yard touchdown run, after ripping 48 yards downfield the play before.

Senior kicker Dustin Smith hit a 21-yard field goal to bring the Trojans within 11 points.

The Hornets started the second half with a clock-murdering 17-play drive that ended with a fumble inside the Trojans two yard line.

Beauregard handed the Trojans their second region loss and their third straight loss overall.

“We’ve got to get back to fundamental football,” Fountain said. “We’ve got a real character check ahead of us. We’re not really where we want to be right now.”

Quarterback K.D. Edenfield led the Trojans in the rushing attack on offense. Edenfield ran for 51 yards, and scored two touchdowns on quarterback sneak plays.

Ahmaad Brantley rushed for 41 yards and Jawara White added 38.

White led the Trojans receivers with 85 yards receiving

The Trojans are on the road next Friday at Rehobeth in another region contest. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
