Pike County’s Big Brothers Big Sisters is preparing for it’s fifth annual golf tournament fundraiser.

The “Tee It Up! For the Kids’ Sake” tournament is the agency’s biggest fund-raising event of the year, Activities Coordinator Melinda Conner said.

“We have a grant this year that will run out at the end of this month,” Conner said. “This is our major fundraiser to keep our agency going.”

The tournament is a four-man scramble and will be held Oct. 13 at the Troy Country Club. The pre-registration deadline is Oct. 10, but Conner said participants can register on site the morning of the tournament.

Registration and the putting contest will begin at 11:30 a.m., and the shotgun start is 1 p.m.

Conner said the cost is $100 per player or $75 for players 65 and older, and brochures for the event can be picked up at the Big Brothers Big Sisters office, the Troy Country Club, First National Bank or the Troy University Golf Course.

To register early, Conner said people can sign up at the agency’s office on North Three Notch Street.

After the tournament ends, participants can enjoy an awards ceremony with refreshments. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place teams, the one closest to pin on all three par holes, and also for hole-in-one and longest drive.

Last year, Conner said the tournament had 64 participants, but this year, they are hoping for 100.

Conner said the proceeds will benefit the agency in all the work they do.

“We are a mentoring agency, so it goes toward any of our work,” Conner said.

Conner said the agency currently serves 200 children throughout the county in their mentoring program, and they also provide several activities for children to enjoy throughout the year.
