The winners of this month’s Miss Peanut Butter Pageant will not only serve as ambassadors for the Peanut Butter Festival, but they will have helped raise money for local disaster relief.

The annual Miss Peanut Butter Pageant will be held Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. at Pike County Elementary School. The event helps raise money for local Red Cross disaster relief efforts, said Jane Thrash of the Pike County Red Cross chapter.

The Red Cross has organized the pageant for the past five years, Thrash said. The winners work to promote the Brundidge Peanut Butter Festival in the weeks leading up to the event.

“We do the pageant ahead of the festival so the queens can promote the festival,” Thrash said.

The Peanut Butter queens will appear in parades and public events and will be involved in a variety of activities the day of the festival.

The Peanut Butter Pageant is open to girls ages 4 to 21. Winners will be crowned in seven age brackets from Tiny Miss to Miss Peanut Butter.

The pageant drew 37 competitors last year and Thrash hopes more will sign up this year.

“We want everyone to make plans to come out an join us for this exciting event,” Thrash said. “We appreciate the Brundidge Historical Society allowing us to do it each year.”

Admission to the pageant is $5 for adults and $2 for children under 10.
